How much is the Homefront Heroes scholarship worth?
The exact dollar amount of the scholarship will vary depending on the degree program in which the winner enrolls. The scholarship covers all tuition, required books, standard shipping costs for textbooks, and technology services fee costs for the duration of the program. A graduation fee at the conclusion of your program (currently $150) will be assessed.
Am I eligible to win a scholarship?
You are eligible to win a scholarship if you are a spouse or surviving spouse of an active-duty member of the US military (including the Coast Guard), a National Guard or reserves member, or a veteran who: (a) is a legal resident of the United States of America and San Diego County, California; (b) is at least twenty-two (22) years of age or older as of the date of entry; and (c) has a high school diploma or GED.
When is the deadline to enter?
The entry period for all applications ends at 5:00 pm (Pacific Time) on November 13, 2011.
When will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced on or about December 7, 2011. Their names will be published via a press release from Ashford University.
How are the winners chosen?
A total of five winners will be selected by a scholarship committee designated by Ashford University. The judges will score each essay based on the essay’s relevance to the topic, its originality, and its overall impression. In the event of a tie, the tied applicant with the higher “overall impression” score, as determined by the judges, will be selected as the winner. The judges’ decisions are final and binding in all respects.
How are the winners notified?
Winners will be notified by phone and mail on or about December 7, 2011. If a potential winner is unreachable by phone after forty-eight hours, or if a notification is returned as undeliverable, that potential winner may be disqualified and a new winner will be chosen.
Can I enter more than once?
Only one entry per person, please. Applicants who submit multiple entries will be disqualified. Because winners are chosen on the strength of their answers and not by luck, there is no statistical advantage to multiple entries.
